Well here we are coasting our way through January and I haven’t even wished our readers a Happy New Year. So I trust that 2012 is being kind to you and that you are indeed having a happy new year?

If the outgoing year wasn’t terribly kind to you I have it on good authority that it was because it was an odd year. Now I have no idea what that means; perhaps the numbers being 11 is the answer or that it simply was an odd year. Personally I favour the later explanation because a lot of odd things did happen.

But one thing that did happen recently and it wasn’t odd at all was that Joe and Yvonne Ricupero celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss. Yvonne, now famous for her loving and genteel manner, presented Joe with a wonderful book of memories covering those fleeting 50 years - including his first love letter to Yvonne. Let me tell you that the book, the letter and the wedding album started some wonderful and funny stories and discussions that went on well into the night.

So there you have it - lets get on with the 2012 and work hard to make our Rotary Club the best there is with more members and lots of money to give back to the communities of the world.

As a last word can I suggest that you stay away from odd things including odd Bulletin Editors who have far too much time on their hands and accountants that shave their beards off – with something to hide perhaps??

PS the sign above hangs on the wall of the Cook (SA) gift shop. Didn't they have a wonderful way of expressing themselves back then that left no doubt in the readers mind as to what they meant ?
